How to maintain your cars during summers?

Car parked in sun light

India experiences really harsh summers when compared to many parts of the world. Summers in India can be so harsh, that people can feel the heat even within their homes. This intense summer can take out a lot of heat on our cars that are normally parked in uncovered parking in residential areas due to lack of space. Here are a list of useful tips for car owners that can help them maintain their cars and increase their longevity by protecting them better during India’s long and harsh summer season:

Keep the cabin cool

Most cars have well graded plastic interior parts like dashboards and interior door panels. Intense summer heat and direct sunlight can harm these interior parts, when the car is parked in the summer for long hours unattended. Therefore, it’s advisable to keep the cars parked in the covers or underground. If not, then covering your car’s windows and windshield with a shade is highly recommended.

Get your AC Serviced

A car’s AC is one of the parts that takes the biggest hit during summers. A well maintained ac system not only cools your car faster, but also ensures that your car consumes less fuel. Therefore, it’s important to ensure that your car’s AC is serviced and working properly during the summer season. Furthermore, when your car is parked outside for a long time during summers, it’s advisable to roll down the windows a bit and then set the fan at the highest level to remove the heat trapped inside the cabin, before rolling up the windows and setting the AC.

Monitoring Tyre Pressure

Tyre is the only part of the car that comes in direct contact with the tarmac when it is running, yet it is the most ignored part by a lot of car owners. However, this ignorance can cause the tires to wear out quickly and result in some horrific accidents, which we have seen quite a few in the past several years. As more and more expressways come up and cars travel faster, the chances of this happening can increase in the coming years. Therefore, it is important to ensure that the tyre pressure of your car is set as per the user manual. Also, consider using nitrogen instead of normal which can increase your tyres lifespan and ensure a more secure ride.

Ensure the fluids of your car are adequate

Like humans, cars also need fluids. These fluids can dry up quickly due to the intense  summer season that we experience. Lack of essential fluids at adequate levels can damage the car and its vital components like Engine and brakes. Therefore, it is an owner’s responsibility to ensure that all the fluids, namely Engine Oil, Brake Oil, Coolant are maintained properly.
